EYE EXAMINATIONS

MY REPORT

Your examination summary report explains ‘in a nutshell’ the outcome of your (or your child’s) eye test.

If we indicate that Vision and eye health are within normal limits and no management is required that means that the level of vision achieved is exactly what we would expect you to see and that your eyes are healthy according to age appropriate norms. So basically, we just recommend another routine check in 12 months to ensure your excellent vision and eye health are maintained.

If we indicate that Spectacles are recommended, that means that based on the tests conducted, we feel that your vision would be significantly improved with the use of glasses (or possibly contact lenses) to achieve optimal vision.

We would also indicate whether the cause of visual concern relates to how your eyes focus (eye focusing) or how your eyes work together as a team (eye teaming). Both are equally vital for fluent reading, screen-based tasks, driving, sport, etc.

You will be advised the recommended use for your spectacles; either:

Near           any task within the range 40cm to arm’s length like reading, sewing or computer work;

Distance     tasks beyond arm’s length like driving, TV or sport); or

Constant     continuous use for most tasks.

Further to this, if we noted Visual functions or ocular health requires further assessment and management by an ophthalmologist or optometrist to conduct specialised tests, and a referral has been provided with this report, that means that we have noted a specific vision or eye health concern that requires particular testing that is not part of a routine eye exam and the attention of a specialised clinician who can manage your specific issue. Referrals will often be provided to a local practitioner, however you can use that referral to go to another ophthalmologist or optometrist you might know or one that perhaps is recommended by your GP.
